a leading recognition of design excellence.

Student Janus

In 1985, The French Institute of Design (FID) launched the Student Janus, the industry-sanctioned  prize rewarding the best projects of student designers. It is an exceptional opportunity for young designers to display their talent and abilities to a distinguished panel of Design professionals.

« Connecting the student and professional worlds has, from the very beginning, been at the core of the mission of the FID” stresses Anne-Marie Sargueil, the organization’s chairperson. “The Student Janus is a key element of building a global Design network. It profits the students, the members of the Jury and the Design industry as a whole ».

The Student Janus is the final step of the FID’s global mission, by accompanying students through the Design Campus Platform, the Design industry’s structure promoting education and employment.

Thanks to the FID’s partnership with the Cumulus schools network, the Student Janus is becoming an international event.

Selection

As with the Janus awards, the Student Janus selection process relies on five criteria : Aesthetic, Ergonomics, Economy, Ethics and Emotion.

The Student Janus jury met in Paris on June 6th , 2006, to pre-select the best projects of the European Way(s) of Life exhibition. Each pre-selected student will present his process to the Jury on June 16th.  The name of the 2008 Student Janus winner will be unveiled on FID website at noon on June 17th, with the jurors’ observations. The laureate will be awarded a 2000 € prize.
